On the 7th August, CDC NSW proudly joined drivers and representatives from the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation, Cancer Council, and the Calvary Mater Hospital to launch a breast cancer awareness bus. The bus will travel through the Hunter region with the aim to spark conversations about the importance of early detection and support for those affected by breast cancer.

The initiative was developed by CDC NSW drivers following their own cancer journeys, with the goal of bringing breast cancer awareness directly to communities.
The specially designed bus exterior features a bold pink colour displaying four powerful words: Fight, Believe, Hope, Survive. These represent the strength to face daily challenges, belief in early detection and treatment, hope for a future without breast cancer, and tribute to survivors while encouraging those currently fighting.
CDC NSW General Manager of Operations Outer Metro Region, Jodie Mallia, said “This bus isn’t just about how it looks – it’s about what it stands for. It’s a symbol of hope, strength, and community.
“The idea came directly from some of our own team – people who’ve faced breast cancer themselves and come through it with incredible resilience. Their stories, their drive to raise awareness, and their passion for helping others are what brought this project to life.”
The bus will travel around the Hunter and surrounding areas delivering crucial messaging about early detection and breast health to people in their local environments.

Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation spokesperson, Josh Lawlor said “We’re all here today to stand with those who’ve been affected by breast cancer – whether it’s been personally, through family, friends, or colleagues. We want this bus to spark conversations, encourage people to get checked, and remind everyone that no one has to go through it alone.”
With one in eight Australian women facing breast cancer during their lifetime, the mobile awareness campaign targets a significant public health challenge through innovative community engagement.
